What sort of workwear does a metal fabrication company need?

In metalworking, the material determines safety: flying sparks and heat require flame-retardant fabrics, whilst EN ISO 11611 applies to welding. Standard workwear made from blended fabrics is unsuitable in these situations because synthetic fibres can melt.

What matters in this industry

Flying sparks and heat
Welding, grinding, cutting — the fabric must not melt and must be able to withstand sparks.
No synthetic fibres in critical areas
Melting fibres cause more severe burns than the spark itself. That is why special fabrics are used instead of standard blended fabrics.
Sturdy construction
Sharp edges and metal shavings call for reinforced seams and hard-wearing fabrics.
Range of motion above the head
Editing means working in any position — the cut has to accommodate that.

Whether a standard is mandatory always follows from the employer’s risk assessment (SUVA/EKAS) — not from the industry alone.

Frequently asked questions

Why is wearing normal work clothes dangerous when welding?

Synthetic fibres can melt when exposed to flying sparks and stick to the body. Welding protective clothing compliant with EN ISO 11611 uses fabrics that do not do this.

Can protective clothing for welders be printed on?

Yes, but the positioning must not compromise the protective effect. We check this as part of the certification process for certified products.

Which brands are suitable for metalwork?

Blåkläder, Mascot and FHB stock ranges with the relevant certification.
